Costumes, Candy, and Pumpkins

When your most favorite show is about a Monkey named George, you might as well be a monkey for Halloween, and call yourself George. Then you'll have a tail to play with all night as you trick-or-treat. Yes, this was Cael's costume. Troy requested a "pirate captain" costume this year. I'm not sure he would have been as excited about what he wore if he knew that his costume from the Goodwill was actually a perfectly puffy and frilly woman's blouse that I snipped and sewed for a much better fit, along with girl pants that I de-jeweled.  Brock, as expected, also wanted to be a pirate and request  a "pirate crewman with just a bandana" outfit.

My favorite Halloween nights are the ones without rain. I think we've had four Halloweens without rain while living in WA. lucky.
I love these pirate faces, so serious!

We started off the night at our church's parking-lot for some trunk-or-treating. Jer didn't have to work this year so we were happy to have him with us for the night. Since the trunk-or-treat goes by so fast, we trick-or-treated around our neighborhood a little before the boys passed out candy at our house.

Cael would wave at everyone that gave him candy

Enjoying his first candy bar of the night.

Troy and Brock entered their pumpkins in the school's pumpkin decorating contest. The school judged off of kid's creativity, encouraging parent involvement but discouraging too much parent help. So, Troy designed his carving and Jer carved it. Troy did all of the painting and cut out the wings but needed help with placing them. Troy, in his usual style, lost sleep for nights over the contest. I made sure to prep my little competitor and told him that win or lose he needed to have a good attitude and be happy for the winner or he wouldn't be doing the contest the next year. He was excited to show us his restaurant coupon he won for having the best carved pumpkin.

Brock had his mind set on creating a silver robot; it helps having the good old internet to provide a plethora of ideas. Brock did all of the painting on his own with a couple guidelines to paint off of. I pounding in the shish kabob sticks so he could wrap them with foil. He also won a restaurant coupon for having the best painted pumpkin. He said when the winners were announced, a girl in his class was so upset about not winning that she threw a huge fit and ended up in the Principles office:/  Troy said when he told other kids that they did a good job, they told him he was only saying it because he won. It shows that contests are good learning experiences for young kids. And adults.
