Another year at another school. Only this time, this would be their last time being the new kid! I am glad my kids have the opportunity to grow up in a small town with, for the most part, the same kids through H.S. graduation. For Troy, including each preschool, this made his 6th new school and the 5th new school for Brock. These two are very adaptable.
Once again, I made sure I worried more about their transition than these guys did, it's what I'm supposed to do. Right? They had a great first day. Unfortunately for Brock, he wasn't able to play with the kids at recess because of that darn collarbone break, so it took him a bit longer to work his way in with a group of friends but he managed to find some very nice kids. Troy had a few hard days during his first few months. He has some super competitive kids in his grade level and he came home in tears a few times because of recess problems. (I was worried about this happening because of my own experience at this school. Lots of these kids grew up playing sports together at a young age, they see each other at church on Sundays, and live close enough that they are able to carpool and go to each others houses at very young ages. And, a lot of these kids are related, I still wonder about inbreeding because of the large number of relatives! So, when you live on the outskirts of the school boundary and you're the new kid, you have to work harder, friends aren't given to you at a young age.) Aside from a few hard days, Troy did made awesome friends; the type of friends that I would pick for him if I were allowed to do that :)
But man, look at how these boys have grown up!
