After the first two attempts of my yearly Mother's Day pic were labeled "FAIL" attempt three was a delightful success.
Attempt One: Jer had the day off. Good weather. We were outside all day. Troy had a huge crash at the skate park. Perfect lighting at my desired photo spot. Scary tree branches (according to Cael). Hungry boys. Tired boys and mom. Boo. We tried but the picture didn't happen. We ate out for dinner. The Indian food was delicious. Mr. Fast Hands i.e. Cael grabbed my red, sauce-filled fork off my plate. It fell down my white shirt and landed on my new pink pants. I scrubbed and scrubbed when we got home. My shirt has a very faint stain and my pants are lightly faded from my scrubbing so hard. Still wearable. My finger has healed from being rubbed raw from scrubbing so hard.
Attempt Two: Great weather. We were outside all day, again, playing at the splash park while enjoying the company of friends who will soon be moving. Jer had to work. Spur of the moment decision to get the boys and myself showered and ready, fed, and out the door to meet Jer at the same park after he got off work. We waited. Jer got stuck at work for an extra hour. Boo. The beautiful lighting disappeared by the time Jer made it over. Oh well, Cael still cried because of the scary tree branches.
Attempt Three: SUCCESS! We planned on having a relaxing day (note the previous post, Raw Kale). When 6:30 rolled around and it hadn't rained and was still warm out, I began debating with myself on whether it was worth it or not to hustle and get everyone ready, again, and hope for ONE decent picture. I bagged the park idea and waited to put my makeup on until I knew Jer was on his way home (yes, I'm turning into the lazy makeup momma). We met Jer outside as he got home and walked across the road to "our" cattle field. I almost did a happy dance when I checked over the pictures. The last thing I want to do is make a big production out of getting a picture for Mother's Day. Looking back over the years, I am glad that my diligence has paid off and I have these yearly pictures to treasure. I am so very happy to be these boys' mom.
