Second Grade + Kindergarten

We sent Troy off for his first day of second grade on wednesday, almost two weeks ago. I offered to take him to class on his first day but he insisted on riding the bus. He was so excited the night before that he struggled falling asleep (this is totally a Troy thing to do) but he still jumped out of his bed the moment his alarm went off and was dressed and had his teeth brushed in record time. His first week and a half of school was fairly uneventful for him, aside from having to visit the nurses office from an accidental tripping in flag tag leading to him slamming the back of his head on the pavement. He was the first kid in his class to reach the highest good behavior rank and is determined to be the first to get five of these rankings for an award. He and one other kid both have received two their first week so he's very happy (and so are we about his good behavior, which comes easy for Troy in classroom settings).

I challenged Troy to try and make as many new friends as possible. He replied by saying that he's already friends with everyone (though he definitely has preferences)

We often find Troy with his nose deep in a book. This boy loves to read. His teacher has a large assortment of books in her classroom that are right up Troy's ally. I think they'll get along great.

As excited as Brock was to start Kindergarten, his school had the Kindergarteners wait a few extra days before their first day. Once Troy started school, Brock anxiously waited for his turn to go to school by playing many games of memory, puzzles, and card games with me, along with helping bake cookies and banana bread for when Troy got home until the following Monday. I enjoyed my one-on-one with my buddy during this time while Cael napped; it's just as hard sending off child #2 as it was to send of child #1 so that extra time was much appreciated.

Brock already knew three of his classmates from church and preschool but I also challenged him to make as many friends as possible. As I watched him stand in line while waiting to go into his classroom his first day he chattered, laughed, smiled, and acted like he'd been going to Kindergarten his whole life.

Brock loves recess and lunch time. He picked out a really cool camo lunch box and since school makes my boys' appetite seem to double, he always eats everything we send with him - as long as he's given enough time.

Brock hasn't slowed down yet and is always the first dressed and ready for school.

The boys rode the bus together the next day and since Troy is a bit camera shy around other kids, we compromised with a sidewalk pic of them heading to the bus stop. (But i still snuck pics with my phone's camera as they loaded up on the bus)

I knew that Troy would and will always look out for Brock. He walks him to his class each morning and waves to him when they cross paths during school. Troy told me last week that he had a talk with the bus driver, letting her know that Brock had to sit in the back seat of the bus. He suggested that she keep the younger kids in the front and have the older kids sit in the back. She told Troy that that was a really good idea (duh) but we haven't noticed her taking action yet. Nonetheless, go Troy! He also said he asked the art teacher if she had taught the Kindergarteners yet. He then asked if she remembered Brock from Mrs. E's class and the art teacher told Troy that Brock was the best student in his class. Troy proudly told her that Brock was his brother.
