The boy's school had a fun run a few weeks ago and both boys wanted to race. The Kindergarten class had a 1/2 mile race. Brock was in the back of the pack at the starting line (he's not quite as competitive as his older brother). Just as the race started, Brock and another kid tripped on each other. They both went down and were in dead last place. Brock jumped up first, stood over the other kid and said, "Get up! We're still in the race! Come on!" I watched as Brock's long, steady stride eventually pulled to the front of the crowd and though he didn't place, he came in roughly 5th place. I was impressed considering his rough start.
The second graders got to run a one-mile race. I missed the start of the race but luckily caught Troy as her rounded the corner where I was standing with the boys. (Parents were invited to run, too. So no, this shoeless girl isn't a second grader but someone's mom.)
Troy was really excited to not only place but to win his race. Though he didn't hit his goal, he's definitely a determined competitor and crossed the finish line with a smile on his face.
