Layner

One of the many nicknames Troy Layne replies to...Layner. Since December I've been wanting to write down this story before I forget, because sometimes I do just that, forget. Every parent loves to receive compliments about their children. It reinforces that this important job of parenting is paying off, even when our eyes and ears are not around to see and hear the behavior of our children. A primary leader from church came out of her way to let me know how impressed she always is with Troy. She could tell that we teach him at home and was so impressed with an answer he shared during primary one Sunday. She couldn't remember the question she asked, but told me Troy raised his hand, shared a scripture story, then related it to her question. This made my day. When we were home later that evening, I was telling Jeremy about what the primary leader told me, then I asked Troy if he could remember the scripture story he shared. He thought for a second (I have substituted a few times in primary and have seen first hand how often Troy's hand is raised with answers). Soon a HUGE grin filled Troy's face. He said something to this effect, "I told the primary the story of Daniel and the Lions Den. The King's servants didn't like Daniel very much because they were jealous that the King really liked him. So the servants tricked the King into making a new law that no one could pray to Heavenly Father. The King had to put Daniel in a lions den since he broke the law but hoped that Heavenly Father would protect him....and he did, Daniel didn't get bit by one lion...and then they ALL ATE PIZZA! Ha Ha Ha!" Half way through his story I looked at Jer because I knew this wasn't a story I had shared with Troy recently and Jeremy returned the same puzzled look to me. Anyone ever heard of Veggie Tales? Well obviously Veggie Tales deserves the pat on the back for this one!

I was looking through my pictures so I could add a few of Troy and one quality of many that he has; Troy was born to be a big brother, and he is an AWESOME big brother!
